You’ve gone looking for clothes that are better for your health and the planet, only to find yourself staring at racks of beige, off-white, and muted tones. The cuts are familiar, the designs cautious, and nothing jumps out at you or makes you feel excited to try it on. Every piece promises responsibility, yet it leaves you scrolling, browsing, and hoping for something that actually feels like it was designed with real life in mind.
Layere Changes The Sustainable Clothing Story
On July 1, 2025, Layere was launched, originating from Jubilee, a clothing brand that had spent five years building momentum and generating over $100,000 a month. Katherine Sara, the company’s founder, had a moment of reckoning. Having realized that success measured purely in profit wasn’t enough, she wanted to create something clean and non-toxic, yet comfortable, stylish, and thoughtfully designed with real-life functionality in mind. She wanted to create clothing that prioritized women’s health and the planet without compromising on wearability or everyday practicality.
Her decision came at a time when the global fashion industry is dominated by synthetic fibers. Today, more than 60% of clothing worldwide is made from polyester and other plastics, materials that shed microfibers with every wash and can release microplastics into waterways and even into the air we breathe. Research has also raised concerns about PFAS and other chemical finishes used to make fabrics stain-resistant or moisture-repellent — substances often referred to as “forever chemicals” because they persist in the environment and have been linked to hormone disruption and other health risks. At the same time, textile waste continues to grow, with millions of tons discarded each year as fast fashion accelerates production and disposal cycles.
Thus, Layere was born. Every choice, from fabric to fit and function to color, is made with intention, ensuring that sustainability doesn’t compromise style, personality, or the joy of wearing clothes that feel thoughtfully designed for real life. This thoughtful approach unfolds across several key pillars of the brand, from sourcing to design, color, environmental responsibility, and everyday functionality, each carefully crafted to make sustainable clothing truly exceptional as follows:
I. Thoughtful Sourcing
Sourcing responsibly is Layere’s first step to creating beautiful clothing that’s built to last. Every garment is produced in trusted partner facilities in Portugal and China, chosen not only for their craftsmanship but also for their unwavering commitment to using clean, non-toxic materials, ensuring safe working conditions and fair wages, while also prioritizing worker wellbeing. Each partner is either GOTS-certified or audited under the amfori BSCI system.
The GOTS certification ensures that the fibers used are organic, every chemical used, from dyes to finishing agents, is thoroughly evaluated for its environmental and health impacts, and wastewater is treated responsibly. On the social side, GOTS ensures safe working conditions, fair pay, and the absence of child labor. All these are verified through independent, third-party audits that track the product from the field to the finished garment.
Under the amfori BSCI system, partners are evaluated in a global social risk management program that ensures fair and safe workplaces. Think of it as a “health check” for factories: independent audits evaluate 13 key areas, including fair wages, occupational health and safety, and strict rules against child labor. But it doesn’t stop there. Amfori also provides training to improve working conditions and human rights, helping factories grow stronger while staying accountable. By partnering only with facilities that meet these standards, Layere ensures that every garment supports people, planet, and purpose, not just profit.
II. Designed for Women’s Health and Comfort
Since Layere uses the highest standard of organic cotton, it takes women’s health seriously. Its fabrics meet Class A certification (the same baby-safe grade trusted for infant wear) and are finished without harsh dyes or chemical treatments, making them gentle enough for even the most sensitive bodies. This means fewer toxins against the skin, better breathability, and clothing that supports the body’s natural balance rather than disrupting it.
Pajamas

Layere’s pajamas are made from 100% organic cotton, keeping your skin in contact with gentle, breathable fibers for 7–9 hours of uninterrupted rest, with no microplastics, harsh chemical finishes, or toxins to disrupt your body’s natural detox and repair.
Activewear

Activewear blends 95% organic cotton with 5% spandex, letting you move freely while reducing exposure to plastics and chemicals that can clog pores during sweat-heavy workouts. All sets are dyed with low-impact, skin-safe colors and free from PFAS repellents or antimicrobial coatings.
Underwear

Underwear is crafted with 100% organic cotton, focusing on high-absorption areas and eliminating direct contact with finishes linked in research to endocrine and fertility concerns.
Sweaters, Hoodie Sets and Travel Sets

Even sweaters, hoodie sets, and travel sets are made from natural fibers only, gentle against the face and neck, and free from static or itchy acrylic, allowing your skin barrier to breathe calmly all day.

With Layere, every piece is designed to care for your body as much as it cares for the planet, so health, comfort, and style can coexist seamlessly.
III. Purposeful Design and Colour Choice
While health is the foundation, Layere refuses to let sustainability feel dull or uninspired. At Layere, every design detail is intentional, created to make your life easier without compromising style.
Take their workout sets, for example: deep pockets hold your phone, keys, or cards securely while you run or stretch, zip protection keeps zippers from pinching or scratching your skin, built-in gloves mean you stay warm during chilly morning workouts without extra accessories, and breathable fabrics keep your skin cool and dry, reducing friction and irritation during movement. These functional touches are designed with real-life performance, comfort, and convenience in mind.

Apart from function, Layere also brings style and personality into sustainable clothing with a thoughtfully curated palette of red, deep blue, light blue, bubblegum, black, and espresso brown, so you don’t have to settle for boring neutrals. Every piece proves that clothing can be practical, sustainable, and exciting to wear, combining features that work for your body with colors and cuts that feel alive in your wardrobe.
IV. Environmental Responsibility
Finally, Layere ensures that every fiber and package is designed with the planet in mind. They make everyday pieces from 100% organic cotton, and even the workout sets are 95% organic cotton with just 5% spandex, the smallest amount needed to maintain stretch and support. You won’t find polyester or nylon in their clothing, as scientific studies show that these fabrics shed microplastics onto your skin or into the environment every time you wear or wash them.
Choosing organic cotton also keeps toxic chemicals out of the soil and water, safeguards the people who grow and sew the fabrics, and protects animal habitats. This is because organic cotton is grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides, which preserves soil health. It also uses 70-91% less water and supports farming communities with safer working conditions.
And it doesn’t stop at the clothing. Layere’s packaging is completely plastic-free, made from plant starch, and even the paper tags are recycled, so the environmental impact is minimized from the moment the product leaves the factory to the moment it reaches your hands. Every piece you wear is part of a system designed to care for the planet, the people, and your everyday life.
V. Customer First, Always
Finally, Layere values customer experience as much as it values clean materials and ethical sourcing. From the moment a package arrives, every detail feels intentional. Inside, a recycled paper tag may gently remind you that “you are fearfully and wonderfully made ” (Psalm 139:14 ). The packaging may also read something like, “Layer your skin with the safest, finest fabric. Feel the difference with our toxin-free materials made with your skin’s health in mind.” These details are intentional.
Layere has even shared that instead of allocating large budgets toward gifting influencers, they choose to invest those resources into creating the best possible experience for the customers who truly support the brand. The message is clear: the people who purchase, wear, and believe in Layere matter most. Every note, every recycled tag, and every carefully packed order reflects a brand that values long-term relationships over short-term visibility.
Choose Clothes That Choose You
As you build your sustainable closet, away from synthetic fibers such as polyester, acrylic, and nylon that pollute the environment and affect your health, choose garments that care for your skin, move with your body, reflect your personality, protect the planet, and align with your values, all at once.
